Inspired by the grand old pharmacies of Europe, Libertine Parfumerie is the result of a seamless collaboration between Alexander Interiors and Tamsin Lewis Design, with exquisite Australian-made joinery by LCR Shopfitters.
From the moment you step through the door, the space feels calm, airy and transportive – a deliberate contrast to the buzz of the world outside. Central to this atmosphere is a fully restored internal courtyard, complete with classic French Provincial timber doors. These frame the journey from the front retail space into a private VIP room tucked away at the rear, offering customers a sense of discovery and exclusivity.
The vision for the space was to create an ‘oasis’ – a refuge from the everyday and a gateway to something rare and wonderful. The palette and materials reflect this philosophy, with warm oak cabinetry, Versailles-inspired parquetry flooring underfoot, and elegant French marble wash basins adding to the feeling of old-world luxury. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the hand-painted feature walls between the joinery units to the ornate ceiling mouldings overhead.
What sets this store apart is its unapologetic opulence – a striking divergence from the modern retail trend of sleek minimalism. Here, every element speaks of a bygone era of craftsmanship, indulgence and refinement. It’s a space designed to be experienced, not just browsed.
The fully Australian-made joinery forms the backbone of the interiors, its rich textures and detailing lending authenticity to the vision. Among the more unique inclusions are a set of 200-year-old marble sinks, imported from France and cleverly retrofitted with modern plumbing – a perfect marriage of antique beauty with
contemporary function.
Adding to the store’s mystique was the unusual decision by the client not to open the doors for three weeks after the project was completed – a rare move in today’s fast-paced retail world, and one that reflects the brand’s commitment to doing things differently.
With a generous timeline and meticulous planning, the project unfolded smoothly, allowing the craftsmanship of every partner involved to shine through. The result is a refined and richly detailed interior – a rare gem in Sydney’s retail landscape, and a perfect blend of European romance with local expertise.
