In May 2025, Westfield Sydney welcomed fast-growing Australian fragrance brand Palermo Perfumes into its fold of retailers. Located on Pitt Street Mall, one of Australia’s busiest retail precincts, the store marks the brand’s first flagship in Sydney and a milestone collaboration between Retail Outfit and designer Aydnco.
Palermo Perfumes, renowned for its collection of over 1,500 designer-inspired fragrances, invites customers to indulge in a luxurious world of perfumes where sophistication meets unforgettable scent. Entrusted with this vision, Retail Outfit worked closely with their team of trusted trades and suppliers to transform the 166sqm tenancy into an engaging, sensory-rich retail experience.
Upon entering from Pitt Street Mall, customers are greeted by a visual symphony of curves, light, and texture. Expansive LED screens animate the Palermo Perfumes story, fostering an immersive brand experience from the very beginning. The interior is defined by curved walls and custom-built curved perfume displays containing 2,400 pigeonholes, each holding numbered perfume bottles that guide visitors through the space. Gold powder-coated feature frames divide two point-of-sale counters, offering a view through to the lower level, accessible via stairs on either side of the store. Aydnco’s innovative design supports a seamless customer experience, where every element has been intentionally positioned to create flow and intimacy.
The build itself showcases Retail Outfit’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and seamless project management. Technical drawings were prepared with precision, particularly for the curved walls and custom-built joinery, to ensure flawless on-site installation. Black Venetian plaster by Giorgio Graesan Australia on the curved walls and joinery adds a sense of luxury and depth, while the overhead ceiling discs clad in Rimex Champagne Oasis sheets work in harmony with lighting by Ambience and About Space to amplify the shimmer of the glass perfume bottles below.
Jack Reade, Director of Retail Outfit, reflected on the significance of the project:
“It was a great honour to be entrusted with our 19th fitout for Palermo Perfumes, and their first flagship store in Sydney. This project showcases what’s possible when you work closely with a designer to bring your client’s vision to life. We’re looking forward to carrying this momentum forward into their flagships at Melbourne’s iconic Chadstone and Melbourne Central shopping centres.”
Despite the complexities of working in a high-traffic CBD location and within a tight timeline, the project was delivered on schedule with meticulous attention to detail. Retail Outfit’s expertise in engaging proactively with fitout stakeholders such as shopping centres and local councils was evident in their seamless navigation of approvals, including securing a Local Heritage Exemption to complete shopfront works on the Pitt Street Mall heritage façade.
A true collaborative effort, the project brought together an outstanding team of local trades and suppliers whose collective expertise played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the fitout. The result is a truly iconic flagship store that engages all the senses and sets a new standard for retail fitouts across Australia. It stands as a physical representation of the Palermo Perfumes brand and a testament to Retail Outfit’s commitment to delivering spaces that are as well-built as they are beautiful.
